Corella behaviour changed

Question
Maggie,

I wonder if you can shed some light on a behaviour problem my corella (bare-eyed cockatoo) has recently developed.  He is 1 1/2 years old.  Recently he has become quite nervous, of what, I'm not sure.  Prior to 2 months ago, he stepped up well from the cage and stepped back down.  Loved to travel on my shoulder and sit with me to watch tv.  Now, he is very reluctant to step up or leave the cage.  He often scares himself whereby 'nothing'has happened but he jumps around his cage, out onto the floor screeching until he can get back to his cage.  He won't let me lift him back either.  He is not aggressive and not biting.  He still loves to get cuddles but only in his cage.  If he is only happy in his cage, how can I intice him out again?  thanks Liz

Answer
Liz-

There is obviously something very serious causing him to behave this way... however, I would recommend consulting a professional parrot behavioralist for help... because this is very much beyond my ability to help answer in a response.

This is an informative webpage about phobic and/or fearful parrots:

at the bottom of this webpage (the last paragraph), there is information for a phone consultation service provided by a professional parrot behavioralist. I would HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend this service to you.

Here are some articles that hopefully will help point you in the right direction:

I hope this helps... and good luck with your little corella!
