Why does our Parrot scream?

Question
Hello Maggie,
Thanks for being available to help  parrot owners.
I bought a parrot from a friend three months ago.  She/he is a two year old amazon orange named jojo. Jojo seems happy.  It flys around the living room and kitchen.  It gets lots of attention.  It flys on your shoulder, especially when you're  eating.  And now it seems to  be trying to speak. All is well but for one problem.
Either once a day or every other day jojo flys around the room screaching.  The noise jojo makes is really ear piercing and disturbing. This behaviour lasts for a few minutes. We do not know why jojo does this and if it is possible stop this behaviour. We feel we are not ill treating jojo and therefore give it no reason to be stressed.
What do you think Maggie?  I hope  i have given you enough info to describe the problem.
            Thankyou for helping out.

Answer
The behavior you described is perfect, healthy and happy amazon behavior. In fact... you should feel lucky- if Jojo only screams one a day or every other day for a few mintues... feel VERY, VERY lucky. Most Amazons scream much longer and more frequently than JoJo.

This is just parrot behavior... parrots are loud. (and Jojo doesn't seem to have a screaming proplem what so ever from your description). :)

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask me more.
