Double-yellow - beak question

Question
Reverend Abbott,

My parrott's beak looks like it's starting to crack and flake off on the top layers.  Does it grow back?  I thought something might be lacking in the diet so I recently bought some supplements.  What should I do?  Should I remove the toys from his cage?  If it is due to diet, what type of food should I give it?

I really appreciate you help!

Answer
I think what you're describing is normal molting, especially since you mention it now (this is the typical time of year for that).

Beaks wear away from the top layers down.

Keep his toys intact, including wood chewing items which help - also, a mineral block and/or fresh cuttlebone. We also make sure one of the perches is a concrete or mineral perch (just make sure it's not a perch they're forced to stand on all the time).
