Question
Can I use paint that is safe for children on my quaker parrots cage?

Answer
hi.  thanks for your question. i strongly suggest that you not use any type of paint in your parrots' cage. reason being, although it may be safe for children, what is safe for humans in general may not be safe for birds.
most bird toys and bird items are painted with vegetable dye because it is the only safe color medium that can be used around birds. since birds obviously chew their toys, it is important that they do not ingest anything toxic. birds tend to chew on their cage bars or use their beaks to climb them. thus, it is not safe to paint them with any type of paint.  vegetable paint would not be feasible for this purpose as it bleeds immediately when it comes into contact with water.
so to answer your question, no, i would not use any type of paint for a bird cage. if you want a new color of cage or if your old one is chipped, you may need to buy a new one. better than risking your birds' lives!  hope this helps. alicia.
