Quakers and Amazons

Question
Can you breed a quaker and an amazon?

Answer
Hi. Thanks for your question. Generally speaking, no.  Quakers are from the species Myiopsitta (they are the only member of this species) and Amazons are from the Amazonia species.  Birds from different species generally do not breed. There is some work being done creating "hybrid" bird species but that is usually done in a laboratory as opposed to letting the birds breed themselves.
Parrots are unlike dogs in that there can be many different species but they are all still considered parrots. Dogs on the other hand, have many different breeds but they are all of the same Canine species. Hence, the mixed breeding we see in dogs ("mutts") is not common in parrots. Hope this helps. alicia
