laying eggs/eggbinding

Question
I have 2 1/2 year old male and female lovebirds, housed together. Upon purchase, they were sex tested as males, then after over a year, they were realized a male and a female. I did not want to separate them. I followed the strict rules from my bird expert [the owner of treetop] who said no nesting materials, no nesting boxes, toys that kept them occupied and less waking hours. If they did what they wanted, pull the eggs and replace them with fakes. Anyways.. I noticed my female getting a bit chunky and thought that she was not getting enough exercise. Today when i got home from work, she appears to be laboring. She refused to come out to see me, her lower stomach and vent appear swollen and she looks as she is in labor. She did eventually come out briefly to see me [for a treat], she is eating, drinking, grooming, etc. I am unfamiliar with this and what is normal. How should she look and what should I watch for. I am aware of eggbinding, but have never seen it. What should I know to see in a normal labor vs a bound one. Please help!!

Answer
She IS egg-bound. If she was laying an egg normally, she would not be coming for treats and it would not take this long. Egg-laying is a fast process, so she is 100% egg-bound and needs to go to the vet right away!
I hope the vet can help her and THANK YOU for recognizing the symptoms and being willing to do something about it! I wish you the best of luck!
