Question
I have a 2 yr old blue and gold..lately i have noticed his beak seems to have a layer missing...there looks like it has peeled on the side. he eats great and has not been acting sick. Is this the normal grow for a large hook bill bird i have seen this on other lg. parrots...or do i need to be concerned.

Answer
Hello Phyllis.  Thank you for your post.
It is normal for a larger bird's beak to have this "peeling" look.  The beak is in fact, peeling to make room for new calcium to grow in.
Just make sure that he has a calcium block in his cage.  He'll be fine.

Good luck and God Bless.
