Thinking of buying two budgies

Question
Hello,  I'd like to get two budgies probly male and female if I can sex them properly. I'd like to have them handtame shortly after I get them... is there hope of handtaming a male/female pair of 7/10 week old babies? I thought a single one would get lonely as I can only spend about 1 1/2 to 2 hours derectly with my birds daily for out of cage time other times my dogs are around and they can't be trusted with my birds(I currently have two love birds), I plan to hands on tame my budgies with there wings clipped by myself a day or two after I get them... will this work? Also since they will get 1-2 hours out of there cage daily how big should there cage be? Would a singel be happy with the time I can offer or not?

I look forward to hearing from you soon, Thanks.

Answer
Hi,
thank you for your question.
I am sorry that this took so long, but I was not able to access AllExperts during the last three days.
Budgies, as all parrots, are very social animals and should not be kept alone. So by all means get two. Here are good pictures for sexing budgies:

With patience and millet spray, you will have no problems taming them. Clicker training is excellent for taming birds, here's good info on that:

For two budgies that get not that much time out of the cage, I recommend a cage that's about 3 ft long and at leats 1.5 ft wide and high, so that they can fly a bit in the cage. Make sure that budgies and lovebirds don't meet, lovebirds have been known to bite the budgie's legs off.
I'm strongly opposed to wing-clipping because I think it's cruel to take away something that's so important to birds. Their natural way of moving is flying after all, so clipping their wings in similar to taking the legs of a human. It's abosutely possible to make a room bird-proof. I'll get off my soapbox now, I hope you didn't mind :)
I hope I was of some help to you
