Question
Dear Carol,I need your help i just bought a Senegal parrot, i beleive hes about 3 years old his right eye had a problem since i bought it, i've had it for one week now, first i dont it sees in it, and second the pupil is so big that you can barely c the light part of it, the bird stool has more liquid than it should. the vet gave me some antiobotic to add to its water, but its almost a week and its not really getting better, although the birds is healthy eats and drinks well and moves around normal. Im not so sure what to do next, i also have a 1 & 1/2 year old baby boy, could any disease affect the baby. can you also reply to this e-mail zaid@khalifeh.net THANKS

Answer
The VET gave you medication to put in the water? Was this a certified avian vet? I have never met an avian vet who ever told a person to put antibiotics in the water. You see, when you do this, the bird just stops drinking because the medication tastes horrible. Any antibiotics would be given directly into the mouth through a syringe. The disease should not have an effect on your baby. Most avian diseases can't be passed to humans. Could you tell me what the name of the antibiotic is?
