Question
hey chrys,my quaker is eating a little bit of friut(banana, apple) and cereals (fruit loops, corn flakes),but he only eats them from my hand,if i put him in his cage with fruits and apple and cereal he will look for seeds,he wont eat them fruit, should make half of his diet seeds and fruit everyday?

Answer
Hi, Usman.

This is great!  No...you don't want your bird weaned to seed.  Offer seed only as a reward or treat.  Fruit loops aren't real good because they are sugar coated.  Corn flakes are OK, but try something a bit more nutritious, like Grape Nuts or other whole/multi grains cereals.  Do not keep seed in the birds cage.  He'll always look for the seed instead of the good food if he thinks it will be there.  He evidently expects it to be there or he wouldn't be looking for it!  You want him to look for his good food like he looks for his seed.  When he eats his good food, reward him with seed, but only after he finishes his good food (not each time he takes a bite).  Offer more vegetables...veggies are better nutritionally than fruit.  Give him a stalk of broccolli, half a carrot, some green beans/peas, inch of corn-on-the-cob, etc.
