cockatoo vomitting

Question
Hi.  I have a 6 year old female umbrella cockatoo.  She seems happy and healthy, and was vet checked several months ago and given a thumbs up.  However, sometimes she seems to vomit up this mucus-like stuff.  Never food, just this clear, whitish, stuff.  She seems to swallow it back down.  I'm worried and haven't been able to find anything about it on the web.  She eats Zupreem pellets and fresh foods as well.  Her cage is kept meticulous, as are her perches.  Can you help?

Answer
Its very unusual for parrots to vomit. It isnt really normal and it would need to be checked out. The fact that it isnt food that shes regurgitating is also worrying because parrots can sometimes bring up food for their owners out of "love" but thats not what shes doing. It sounds like shes got a medical problem, it could be bile that she is vomiting and this could indicate a liver problem. I would want a vet to take a blood same from her to see if at any stage she has suffered from lead posioning or anything like that. It sounds like you take great care of her but another vet check by a specialist wouldnt do any harm to put your mind at rest. Good luck and I hope she is fine.
