My bird died

Question
Our cockatoo, who was 7 years old and to my understanding doesnt reach their sexural peek till 9. Everything was fine. She was very health. was eating her food, drinking water.  and all a sudden, fell of her poll inside her cage. We thought that there was a egg inside her and thought that she didnt have the power to push it out since shes young. We had someone put their finger up her and couldnt feel the egg. about less then 15 mins. she lost her breath and dyed. about 40mins, after we noticed that there was blood that had came out of her. By question is, is there anything that we could have done... and is it rare for her age to be making eggs.

Answer
Hi! First of all, please accept my condolences. I know how difficult it must be to lose an important part of the family.

Also, the first thing that stuck out in your letter was the thing about sexual peak. Most birds don't have a hard and fast rule for that. It could be 7, 8 or 9, depending on the bird - just as it is with people!

Unfortunately, the only way to tell how the bird died is to take it to an avian vet and have a bird autopsy done. I don't think her surprise death could have been prevented and i'm sorry there was nothing you could have done to see it coming, but my suggestion would be to take her to an avian vet just in case.

Good luck.
