Question
Im going to be getting my grandpa's african grey parrot within the next few days hopefully tomorrow (10-16-06) but its not for certain. he has no feathers and has been to a vet and he has said that the reasons for the feathers being plucked are pyhcological because he has been ignored and neglected.  im wondering how to earn his trust? and how long it will take for his feathers to grow back. please answer this as quickly as you can. i feel insainly bad for this bird he NEEDS our help. thanks

Answer
Gaining this birds trust could take years, but it will be worth it in the end. They don't handle change well at all so its likely he will continue to pluck for months or years until he has settled in to a new home. Some birds never stop plucking. I think maybe the best thing to do would be to get in touch with a parrot behaviourist in your area. The bird needs serious help as he will be so stressed going to a new home with new people and it sounds like he is already under a lot of stress. Good luck with him
