Question
Hello Sir,
Hope everything will be fine over there, n u will be enjoying good health with ur parrots.
Sir, i have been helped by many of ur suggestions, so i like to thank u first for solving our problems.
Last week i asked u a question about my Congo African Grey, who is a wild one, n not eating anything except SUN FLOWER SEEDS. U have given useful suggestions, but i like to ask another thing, i have an easy idea to convert him to fruits or vegs etc, ( if u don't think that this idea is a stupid one, lolz ), the idea is "can i give my Grey water in which banana, apple, other fruits or vegs r shaked ??? i will use fruits or vegs in a small quantity. So what u suggest ? will i use this idea or not ???
N secondly most of parrot owners in our city use a powder, i m writing the name and the things it contains.
VITASOL SUPER powder: (company: GlaxoSmithKline)  Each 100 gm contains      Vitamin A=2,000,000 iu,  Vitamin D - USP (Vet.)=400,000 iu,  Vitamin E - USP(Vet.)=160 iu,  Vitamin K=900mg,  Vitamin B(1) - BP(Vet.)=125mg,  Vitamin B(2) - BP(Vet.)=2,000mg,  Vitamin B(6) - BP(Vet.)=600mg,  Vitamin B(12) - BP(Vet.)=3,000mcg,  Vitamin C - BP(Vet.)=1,000mg,  Folic acid - BP(Vet.)=200mg,  Nicotinic acid - BP(Vet.)=10,000mg,  Calcium pantothenate - BP(Vet.)=3,000mg.
Sir sorry to ask this question bcoz i know u r not VET, but i m just asking u to answer if u know these vitamins, or acids r good for the health for my Grey, i will adjust the quantity of this powder to give my Grey.
And last question is that the feathers of my Grey r very rough n dirty, i have an ALEXANDRINE PARAKEET who uses to bath daily, so his feathers r very soft, so can i use a spray bottle to give my grey bath ? n can i also mix 1 or 2 drops of DETTOL in the water spray bottle so that it can protect my Grey from germs.??
Sir Thank u so very much for giving ur precious time in listening to our problems.
God bless u all. Bye

Answer
OK let's see
1) using mixed fruit - I think this is an excellent idea as long as you continue to provide fresh water and don't leave the fruit in the cage long enough to spoil and attract germs.

2) vita sol - I wouldn't use this unless your bird is ill putting stuff in the water often discourages birs from drink because they don't like the taste. I know some people put it in for a day out of the week. Most healthy birds don't need extra vitamins so unless reccomended by your vet I wouldnt worry about it.

3) feathers - I would definitly give your little guy a bath the african and australian species often produce more dust than the more tropical species all this dust causes their feathers and skin to itch if they aren't regulary misted. I would reccomend several times a week taking him into the shower and letting him bathe imself if he want's to even if he doesn't enjoy is it is essential that he get wet weekly. When your done if it is farely warm you may place him on top or in his cage to preen and sry himself. If it is cold you may wrap him is a towl and stroke him gently going the direction of the feathers. Never blow dry your parrot. Hope this helps and by the way I'm a mam not a sir :) ---Kelli
