Question
Hi Tara! my lovebird (about 9 months old) just  laid an egg...my question(s) are concerning this....she seems to be acting a bit weird....is this normal? should I be doing anything special for her? (food)....should I still handle her every day or should I leave her alone? I'm told she'll probably keep laying eggs for a few days and then stop...is that true?
THANKS!

Answer
Hello first my question to you is does she have a male partner....another lovebird? Hens offen lay eggs because they want to start a family and out of bordom sometimes as well. I reccomend just keeping a good diet of pellets/small amounts of seeds/fresh veggies and fruits and a cuttle bone avaible to her, there are some breeding mixtures out there but they are not 100% nessairy. A lovebird lays an egg every two days once the clutch is coplete she will stop the clutch can be 1-10 eggs most commanly 4/6, if she doesnt have  aprtner and is laying for no good reason whatever you do, do not remove the eggs wait a few days/weeks for her to give up on them before removing them as removing them too early would cause her to lay more therefore casuing harm to herself as egg laying is very draining on a hen it also takes alot of calcium to form hard egg shells and if there isnt enough calcium in her diet the calcium comes from her supply meaning a hen that lays an exess of eggs offen becomes weak and frail and can die if she isnt stopped. If she does have  partner and these are intended to be fertile and hatch give her and her partner some privacy bother them only to clean the cage/change food/water the fertiel eggs should start hatching 22/23 days after they are laid...remembering since the eggs are laid on different days they hatch on differetn days..two days apart.
