ralnbow lorikeet

We have a 4 month old lori, it is chewing/biting everything including us. it bites my wifes hands neck etc. It does not draw blood but is painful, what can be done to stop this biting. It is lovely. Thanks Keith

Loris sure are beautiful birds. What kind of toys does he have? make sure he has plenty of wood type toys in his cage to chew up. When my conure starts getting a bit nippy I hand him one of those hamster chew sticks and he starts chewing on that. Sidney, my conure is about the same age so I would say it has to do with them being young and testing everything in their environment. When he starts biting you blow gently on him to make him release - most birds love any loud sounds you make so loudly telling him no might just be encouraging and I'm sure you know to never hit your bird or even thump it also the beak is very sensative so avoid grabbing it. Sidney bites my neck sometimes when he wants to play with my necklace so I made a birdy necklace with beads and things on it for him to beak. the key here is distraction when he starts biting and sometimes a brief time out in his cage.
