Question
hi

my african is 1 and a half year old and i just bought him recently with very few experience. i read a lot about their diet, but my parrot doesnt seem to like anything but hot peppers, apples, peanuts and his favourite: seeds!

other than that, her refuses to eat and im concerned. i tried to not give him seeds and put other food to force him to eat, but he would rather starve himself than eat the other healthy food. what can i do?

also, ive been training him to say his name and he finally got that!
other words? no thank u...my name is enough for me! hahaha

is it winter? or something else that makes him not active in speaking? also, he is very scared of people and still not very safe with me, although i do everything for him!
what other information can u give me ? thanks a lot!

Answer
Hi Yasmin,

do not starve her for one thing.
just keep giving her different food not alot at a time just alittle will do .it will take time. and all birds have their favorite food. do you give her pellets? and greys need calucm.  remember everything take time it does not happen over night.
we have one grey that does not talk and she is 6 years old, we tried everything , but the way she talk to us is through whisles, she does differenet whisles for different things. and then we have greys that talk and only take when it suits them.
birds are alot thing people. you have a small child. and she will live to be 50-75 yrs. old.
just keep reading and going to web sites. and learn .
we are still learning new things all the time. about all the birds we have.and we have been doing this now for 11 yrs. and we have all sizes.
do not do to many changes with greys they get upset very easy.and this will change their moods.
remember everything takes time do not rush her.
most little children are scared of things they do not know right. take it slow . and tell her who the people are . greys do not like fast movememts,

take care Barbara
hope to hear from you again.
