Question
What can I do to help my green winged macaw to stop picking all her feathers. I cannot afford the $500.00 for a vet. She has lots of toys and there is a green and gold macaw in the cage with her who does not pick at all, Please help thank you peggy

Answer
Are you sure she's picking her feathers? The other bird in the cage may be pulling her feathers out! Any time a bird suddenly starts picking feathers, you really should go to the vet. Are you sure that the vet costs $500? The tests for a picking bird in my town (which is one of the more expensive places) costs $90-$100 at the MOST. You can do a few things to help without going to the vet, though. First, separate the birds (most important). You can also get a "sock buddy" (www.thesockbuddy.com) system which prevents plucking, and get either bitter apple spray or Cease spray.
Hopefully everything works out well!
