clipping

Hi I have 2 parakeets and I want to train them and I read online you should clip the wings so its easier but my parents wont let me clip the wings do you have any ideas or tips that will make it easier to train them without the wings clipped? I would appreciate it

Hi Alex,

If you have never been shown how to properly clip a birds wings then your parents are right that you should not clip the wings. You can ask your avian veterinarian about wing clipping at their next appointment.

I'm not sure which training methods you have been learning about, but most use positive methods that involve treats and praise. This methods are the same with or without clipped wings. With a bird than can fly away from you, you will need to be more patient and the process may take longer.
