Question
I have a 9 year old male cockatiel and a 2 year old female.  I have seen them breeding and they now have 4 eggs they are sitting on, none are fertile.  Is my male too old to be fertile?

Answer
Hi, Linda,

Your male isn't too old to be fertile, but he may be infertile for some other reason or have low sperm count.  I have an 18-year old tiel that still produces fertile eggs, but not as many fertile eggs as he used to.  There are many reasons eggs aren't fertile.  Are you candling the eggs too soon?  They need to have been incubated 7-10 days before candling.
