we just got Rambo a few days ago he is a Red Fronted Conure,I just have a few questions about him how long dose it take for him to get used to us and should i get nerve tonic to him to clam him down on the other hand Baby who is a black manda is very friendly we got them together thanks for the help Diana

Hello Diana,

Congratulations on your new pet! Your first step needs to be to take your bird to an avian veterinarian to make sure he is in good health.

I would not recommend any "tonic" or drugs be given to a bird unless prescribed by an avian veterinarian. I do not know what nerve tonic you are referring to, but giving such things without the approval of an avian veterinarian can be harmful, possibly even deadly.

What behaviors are you seeing that makes you believe your conure needs to be calmed down? Conures are very energetic birds that need lots of activity to help them release that energy. Be sure to provide him with plenty of exercise opportunities and challenges with toys, foraging opportunities, playgyms, training sessions etc.

As for when he will adapt to his new home, every individual is different and will adapt in their own time.

I have looked in the Parrots of the World identification book and a black manda is not listed so I am not sure what species you are referring to.
