parrot hatchling with problems

Question
I have spoken to Chris re my parrot problem but he is maxed out at the moment.  Just wondered whether someone else could help.  My baby parrots egg was cracked by the parents in the later stages of hatching, it was the last chick to hatch so I removed it, to protect the baby within as it was crying desperately and placed it into my incubator.  I believe that the baby which I had to assist as the cracked shell was restricting its birth was born with a hernia, a small peice of flesh which remained along with the umbilical cord outside the body.  I cleaned the baby up and have so far managed to feed the baby and apart from a slowish crop yesterday which appears to have settled down only have the problem of the now dried up attachment to the babies umbilical.  this is not just the umbilical cord as this usually drops after a few days but this has not and is now about quater inch long but very dry.  I would just like to know whether this will need attention via an avian vet or whether it will be ok if left to drop off itself.

I do hope that you can help me or point me in the right direction.

Thanks Mary

Answer
hello,
as you may know parrots are vary smart and also know if a baby parrot is not going to make it or has something wrong with it that may be why the parents cracked the egg. Also if you do want to try to save the baby he/she will need to go to an avian vet remember most avian vet wont treat a baby parrot that young cause they can die easily and also catch something.
hope this helps you some also wish you luck.
