Question
Can you paint a used parrott cage? If so what kind of paint would you use to keep the little guy safe?
Thank You ,
Barbara

Answer
Hi Barbara,

When I bought a used cage, I made sure to chip off all the rust and clean it throughly. Then I spray painted it with a paint that was labeled as non-toxic and safe to use on children's items. (and of course, lead free). Make sure that the painting is done outside and allowed to dry completely for AT LEAST 24 hours (or until you can't smell the paint anymore). Birds can die from airborne toxins like paint fumes and such, so it is critical that it dries completely before putting a bird in the cage.

I didn't have any problems with my bird who lived in this cage for several years (until I moved him into a bigger care). But, you can always speak with your avian vet to get their ideas on this subject too.
