african grey - sick

my bird is not eating and is dibbling saliva - the vet suggests a gut infection and to keep him hydrated - what is the best way of doing this? we have given him weak sugar water so far but there ios no improvement after a couple of hours.

Hello Suzy.
It goes sound like an infection in his intestines.  The sugar water will ony aggrivate his condition.  The sugar just sits in his gut and will give him more of a ache in his gut.
Try giving him Pedialite.  That has a balance of the nutrients that will help him keep hydrated.  You won't notice a change in him right away, it'll take a few days before you notice any kind of change in him.
