Question
Hello Maggie I have had a peachfaced lovebird for 1 year he is normal colored and should herein be reffered to as 'Merlin' I just aquired two 7 week old slightly splayed legged lovebirds both get around really well and around as bad as some I've seem online there names are 'Selen & Sienna', I am having a slight problem with the trio however...Merlin is housed alone Selen and Sienna together I have noticed none of the birds touch there toys, none of them bother with the toys on there play stand either....why wont they play with there toys instead you will walk into teh room and find merlin running around the floor of his cage shreaking to come out or just sitting on his perch selen and sieena dont bother with there toys they are offen found cuddling together on a perch or on there blankie on the cage floor(which i've found must be changed every two days lol) The toys i get them are brightly clored and normaly have some movable parts to keep them intrested but they wont bother with them...I was wondering if you could reccomend different tpyes of toys that they may acctually play with or if I am doing something wrong as to why they dont play with there toys at all? thank you for your time.

Answer
There are so many different types of toys on the market, that I would recommend trying some different ones. There is an excellent book called "Parrots- toys and play things) that might help you too. Here is a link to the book on amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Parrot-Toys-Play-Areas-Some-Parrots/dp/0967882001/ref=sr_1...

There are rope toys, and easily shredable toys (like "Shredders" or balsa wood toys). I would highly recommend you try some of these. Many birds also like "birdie buddies" to cuddle up with.

Also- especially with Merlin... he might be so focused on you and getting out of the cage, or getting your attention when you are around that he doesn't play with his toys. This doesn't mean that he doesn't ever play with his toys. He might do it when you are not around to see it.

I hope this helps. :)
