Dear Sarah,
After the babies are born are they any special foods to feed the adults parakeets in which they feed back to their young?
And for how long should they be fed this way? Thanks so much

Hello Barbie,

Like I said before, feed them their regular diet, seed/pellet or whatnot. As well give them frest fruits and veggies as well as wheat bread and eggs for them to feed their young. I really prefer not to feed seeds as they are more difficult to digest. Pellets and soft foods are best. Beans, pasta and rice are also great additions to their diet. You can continue this for as long as you wish. They should actually be fed this way daily, just minimize the amount you give them after the babies are weaned. Just be sure there is enough for the babies to eat as well as the parents. You may have to feed more often as well. Just keep an eye on them.

Dear Sarah,

I guess another dumb question is this cooked beans and rice or is it raw? With beans what kind are you talking about or what do you feed yours?
I think this is about it I hope so. Sorry to keep asking all these questions. Thanks you for taking your time with me to answer these questions.

Answer
There are no dumb questions! :)

The rice IS cooked, the beans can be cooked as well. There are different kinds of beans you can use like lentils, you could feed chick peas too. There are some bean mixes out there that are suitable to use. Just make sure you don't get canned beans that have salt!!

You can get fresh beans, bean sprouts, they also have frozen beans that are awesome as well! (the green / yellow ones). Sorry, not the best at describing these things. haha.

What I usually do is get a frozen mix that has a few different types of beans, chickpeas, corn, etc. and microwave it for them. They LOVE it, and its really good for them.
