Answer
Dear Samantha,
thank you for your question.
Sometimes parakeets take a bit longer to get tame, it's a question of their personality. Try offering them millet spray on your hand, most parakeets will do anything for it and even really shy birds will eat it from your hand. That's the first step to get them used to you. When they come to it it from your hand readily, move the millet from your hand where the birds can easily reach it to your arm so that they have to sit on your hand to eat it. This might take some time, so prepare for waiting and tired arms ;)
A great method to tame birds is clicker training. All you need is a clicker (a little gadget that makes a "click"-noise) and a treat. The birds does something you want (for example not flying away when you put your hand near them), you click and offer a small treat. If they don't eat from your hand, you can offer the treat in a bowl. In that case, put the bowl in or on the cage, click and offer a treat a few times to show them where the treat will be after the click during real training sessions. If your parents are okay with it, you might want to join the Clickbird list at Yahoo, it has really good info on clicker training and the poeple there are very friendly and helpful.
