Question
I have just purchased a moustache parrot. Is it If the normal for them to have a strong smell. She is eating well and seems happy. She has a deformed left foot, which dosen't seem to bother her. We have heard some parrots do have a smell about them. Regards Peter.

Answer
Good question! Parrots do have a scent to them, especially when they need a bath, shower or misting, but it's always there to some degree.

I love the scent.  I think it smells a little nutty and musky.  Others don't care for it at all, finding it smells sour or foul.

Since this is a new bird to you, don't try to rush a shower or bath which could just scare her and make future pleasant bathings almost impossible.  Give her some time to adjust and perhaps take her into the shower with you, but don't force her getting wet.  The moist air and steam should help to some degree.

Take a look at my site and suggestions for successful showering set ups (and see our girls)
