Budgie behaviour

Question
Why do budgies cling to the netting of the cage at night, they are hanging on with their feet, as well as their beak. The weather is cold, the cage is on the verandah and covered at nights. Another question would be one of the elder male budgie has an extra long crusty beak and rubs it consistently backwards and forwards on the lid of the wooden nest, why?
The elder female's lower beak is crooked and doesn't match up with the top beak, this bird was purchased from an avary so i didn;t think inner breeding was the cause, can it be fixed?

Answer
Hi, Deborah.  Thanks for posting.

Most parrots hang on the side of their cages at various times of the day.  Some sleep in this position.  This is normal parrot behavior.  How cold is it where your budgies are housed?  It might be too cold for them in this location.

I assume your elder male budgie is rubbing it's beak on the nest because it irritates him.  I recommend you take this budgie to an avian vet in order to determine the problem with the bird's beak.  Longness can be fixed, but the crustiness is abnormal.

You'll also need assistance from an avian vet for the elder females lower beak.  The vet will need to determine the reason for the beak growing crooked...this is some type of alignment problem and needs to be corrected before it affects the bird's ability to eat and drink.  Only the vet can determine the cause and whether it can be fixed.
