Whats wrong with,my mccaw

Question
My scarlet female mccaw is about 17 years old. She sleeps in a cage....and is in the cage while at work. I get her out every morning before work and she poops and goes back to her cage. She hates pooping in her cage. Pretty much potty trained.

I get her out each day when I get home from work and put her on her perch. Then in about 2 hours she's ready to stop eating and play with me.

Recently she has been wanting down off the perch....I mean immediately after she poops....and runs to the laundry room and my flip flops. She now hangs there until time for bed time.

On the weekend.....all day in there. She comes out to poop and runs back in.

I realized of course that the only time she was eating was when she's in the cage.....and only when the cover comes off....so really....not much. Today I put food and water in the laundry room and she ate everything. Now I'm a bad mom. Should I be worried about her behavior?

I found myself on the floor in the laundry room just so I could have some time with her.

Answer
-- You're not a 'bad mom', you're a wildly overindulgent mom and right now this bird owns YOU.

It's time to take your authority back and believe me, after a few days of consistency the bird will be very happy that she's got a reliable routine in her life.

You're asking for brooding and egg laying trouble by letting her have the laundry room and flip flops.  From now on it's off limits.  Shut that door.  Problem solved.

Also, when it's out of cage time, shut that door too.  Better yet, have the cage in a different room from where you spend most of the time with her.

No floor time for a while; establish a 'free perch' - a standing play gym or regular perch where she can spend time with you without ground access unless you allow it.
