Question
i was wondering how from when a cockatoo is born it should be eating hand rearing food the bird is about 13 weeks old and will eat seed only hand rearing food so your help would be greatly appreciated and how can you  tell if the bird isn't feeling well thanks allot

Answer
At 13 weeks old the 'too should be weaning and starting a young bird on a healthy pelleted diet is much easier than switching them after they become staunchly seed eaters.

By the time most people notice a bird is not feeling well, there's a problem that's been going on  for some time.  For this reason, we recommend weekly weighing on a gram scale (ounce scales do not show the smallest change in weights, which are vital).
Also, daily monitoring of droppings for proper amounts and consistencies is necessary.
If you notice the bird fluffing (looking bigger), loss of balance, inability to perch or consistently staying on the cage floor - you have no time to waste - get to the vet.
