Question
Hi, I have just bought a Ghanian African Grey it is around 7-8 months old. I dont think it knows how to step up or down or any thing (seeing as i still havent touched it) im wondering what you think would be the best way to train this bird to be a friendly talkative bird. seeing as he is not for me by myself (i have 3 brothers and my mon and dad).
Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks in Advance

Answer
Well, not all greys talk. Keep that in mind, and don't TRY to teach it to talk. If you just repeat yourself over and over, the bird will just think you're an idiot (LOL). Most birds don't talk until 1-2 years old, so don't try to rush it.
Also, you have to lose ALL fear of being bitten before touching the bird. If it senses fear, it will bite you because it wants to be in charge. Taming takes time and patience, and don't try to rush things or it will actually take LONGER to tame. Here's a website with training and taming instructions: http://www.cockatootrainer.com/timidness/
Check out the other articles on the website-especially the foods and wing/nail clipping page if this is your first bird
