Question
I HAVE JUST ADOPTED AN AFRICAN GREY HE IS ADAPTING WELL TO HIS NEW ENVIRONMENT.  MY HUSBAND WOULD LIKE TO BUILD HIM SEVERAL PERCHES TO SET AROUND SO HE CAN JOIN US WHEN WE MOVE TO ANOTHER LOCATION IN THE HOUSE.  IS PECAN TREE BRANCHES SAFE TO USE?

Answer
Hello Dona and thank you for your post.
I am giving you a list of safe woods to use for your new friend.
Please be sure to wash and disinfect the wood that you use.
Please make sure that the trees have not been treated with chemicals or pesticieds, as this could be fatal if ingested by your bird.
Also, make sure to wash and disinfect the branches and let them dry thoroughly before you let your bird climb on them.

The list of trees that are safe:
Almond, Apple, Arbutus, Ash, Beach, Birch, Crabapple, Dogwood, Bamboo, Elm, Fir, Hazelnut, Pear, Palm, Pecan, Pine, Poplar, Lilac, Larch, Hawthorne, Mullberry, Magnolia, Manzanita, Redwood, Willow, and yes, you can use Pecan.  It is consideres to be a safe wood, however, again, I do stress....if the tree has EVER been treated with any chemicals or pesticides, then please do not use it.

Good luck and God Bless.
