Question -
I have 2 lovebirds and discovered that one was gone tonight. Can they squeeze through small places and is the bird remaining going to die from lonliness? he looks so sad. I am sad PLEASE HELP! how do I get my bird back?

Answer -
How small is small? Anything more than about 3/4" they might manage to squeeze through.

However, the remaining bird, while perhaps confused by the partner's absence will NOT die of loneliness. That is an urban myth.  Remaining birds die beecause they have caught the illness which killed their partner. Since the partner was not apparently ill, this will n9ot be a problem!

It is possible that the absentee will return if you bait a live trap with a favourite food treat.
Good luck!

I ALSO HAVE A CAT WHO WAS VERY INTERESTED, DO YOU THINK IT'S A POSSIBILITY HE GOT THE BIRD WHILE WE WERE GONE? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, IS GETTING ANOTHER BIRD NOT A GOOD IDEA? DO LOVEBIRDS USUALLY COME BACK IF THEY LOVED THE OTHER BIRD?

Answer
I have known a cat to drag a canary through the bars of a cage, but there was plenty of evidence of the fact inside and outside the cage.

I would not say a return is "usual" but it does happen. Bear in mind however that it is a tough world out there for any bird, especially a brightly coloured stranger, who will attract predators' attention.

Do  not get another bird for at least one month, and if you do then decide to get one you must introduce them to each other in a cage that neither bird has been in before as they are very territorial and will defend their space before investigating social possibilities!
