Question
I have a male and female and they have 2 babies.  They have both been great parents......couldn't ask for more from them.  The babies are now almost a month old.  It seems the male is starting to pick at the babies feathers.  So yesterday I put the male into a separate cage.  Why would he do that and is it a problem???????  Help

Answer
Hi Georgia!

Thank you for asking my advice!

This is not uncommon and does not mean he is a bad Daddy.  The babies are getting to the age that they will be leaving the nest box, Dad is just getting impatient and trying to push it along.  You were right to remove him however.

Is Mom still feeding them?  Or are you hand feeding?  The babies should soon be out and about on the floor of the cage learning to eat on their own soon (as long as they have most of their feathers).  You are doing a great job.

Sincerely
Danielle
