hi carol i'm new at taking care of etc. parrots so i was wondering how to pick a budgie acording to health and every thing, i really want to make the wright choise and have my budgie for a looooooooooooong time.see ya l8r,melissa

Well you want one that is bright and alert and is interested in you when you come near the cage. It shouldn't be puffed up, have a "wet" nose or dirty vent (butt). Males (blue cere/nostrils) will learn to talk more but females (pink or tan cere) are easier to tame. Neither is better or worse than the other, it's just your choice. Remember to feed it pellets and NOT seed or millet no matter WHAT the store clerk says.
