on my first day of bringing parakeet home it wont even chirp

hi today i brought my parakeet home and it hasn't ate or chirped at all. is it just adjusting?

It's very likely that he's just getting used to his new surroundings. Being uprooted from wherever he was and the things he was familiar with is stressful and not much to be happy about, even when they end up going to a much better home.
 It would be like you, while watching your favorite show on t.v., having someone come into your house and take you away while speaking an entirely different language. Then they put you in another house that's completely unfamiliar with all new things, none of your family members or friends and expect you to settle into your regular routine.
 So if you remember this while dealing with your little friend you'll be more patient I'm sure and give him all the extra attention necessary for him to learn that this is a good place to be!
