Question
I have a 1 1/2 year old lutino cockatiel. How do i tell if it's a male or female?

Answer
Hello, there is no easy way to sex cockatiels, especially if they don't have the red cheeks. Males usually have darker cheeks than females. It's almost impossible to use this method for some of the mutations. Females may also have yellow bars across their tail feathers and the feathers on their wings. These methods are not very accurate. To sex them they will need to see a vet who can do a DNA test using a feather but this will probably be quite expensive. Unless you plan to breed from your cockatiel there is no real reason to have it sexed, you could just call it him or her, whatever you think it is, it won't really mind. It can be a bit annoying having animals if you dont know if they are male or female but you get used to it. I haven't had mine sexed and I have two that live together happily. Hope this helps, thanks a lot for your question.
