lovebird regurgitating

Question
Hi- Was given a lovebird about a month ago, don't know its
age,but seems healthy and youngish, & is friendly.  Over the past
week it has started to regurgitate food in multiple places on it's
perches, and has a little of this stuff around the edges of it's beak .
I don't know if this is normal behavior, or if it's sick.
I've been feeding it cockatile/parrot food.
A couple of weeks ago I put perches of small driftwood (by the
ocean) in the cage and also used cotton twine to tie some of them
in.  Don't know if the bird is chewing on that stuff getting sick from
it?  I know you're not a vet, but is this normal?   Thanks

Answer
Yes, this behaviour is normal. The bird is probably a male and wanting to mate. With no partner to feed regurgitated food to, he regurgitates it to objects in his cage.

I'm not too happy about driftwood which may carry germs, or twine which he may get tangled in, but I am fairly sure this is purely mating behaviour and will pass, but reoccur from time to time.

If the bird is tame, and you want him to stay that way, I recommend you do NOT consider getting him a partner as he will then cease to be friendly to you and concentrate all his "friendship" on his partner.

Should you decide to get a partner please contact me again before doing so for further important advice.
