Macaw vomitting

Question
QUESTION: I have a mini macaw that vomitted clear liquid a couple of times today.  She laid one egg two days ago and should have a few more coming.  She has never vomitted before during the egg laying time.  I took her to the vet today.  He examined her and could feel the next egg.  He also took blood.  We are waiting for the results in reference to infection.  Could she possibly have something stuck in her esophogus?  Or what is your opinion?

Thank you.

ANSWER: I wouldn't want to make a guess right now, but what you're doing in having the vet evaluation is very good.

The vomiting (and you've described it very well by the way) doesn't usually occur with something stuck, although the bird's actions and sounds may appear so.

Did the vet also do a crop and vent swab ?

Is she currently being bred (thus the egg laying)?

Has she had a DNA/genetic check?

I know it seems like a lot of questions, but it will help me better help you.

Let me know.

QUESTION: The vet did a complete blood panel.  I don't think he did a crop and vent swab, but I will check with the vet in the morning.  She did not have a DNA/genetic check.  She is not being bred, just continually lays eggs, about 3 or 4 every three months.  A DNA/genetic check was done about 4 years ago.  Is there any need to do it again?

Please let me know.

Thanks

Answer
No need to have another DNA/genetic profile done for the same things; however, if something was left out, it might be worth exploring.

The egg laying really needs to stop.  There's not enough room for me to go into it here, so I've actually done a whole article about it on my site and it's pretty easy to implement

Check it out and then let me know if you have any questions about it ok?
