Question
we have a pair of parrotlets here male about 1 yr old and female is about 6 months
they were purchased from very repible breeders that have no connection with each other
these two seam to have bonded together quite well
my question is and for some reason no where can i find an answer to this qustion
at what age do pacific parrotlets start laying

Answer
At approximately 1 to 1 1/2 years old the female should reach sexual maturity; however, this doesn't mean she'll lay. Nor does it mean she should.
 At 6 months you should prevent any mating activity whatsoever so she doesn't deplete her still very young, needy bones from calcium, nor become egg bound trying to lay through immature pelvic opening.
 Egg binding is potentially life threatening. In fact, nearly always fatal if not resolved quickly, which means in the middle of the night if necessary.

 This is a good time to lay in your breeding supplies (feeding apparatus, incubator, nesting materials, box, etc) and have the birds DNA/genetically checked for soundness/health.
