Question
i have been feeding my african grey usual bird food, penuts, and some aplles and corrots but i want to give him some veriet wut else can i feed himm

Answer
Hello Lindsey,

If the diet your are currently feeding is seed based then it is NOT a healthy diet for any parrot. I recommend that your first step be taking your bird to your avian veterinarian. Your bird will need to have some blood tests run to determine if the diet has affected it's organ function. At this time bring in the diet you feed your bird and have a lengthy discussion about the nutritional needs of your bird and if those needs are being met.

A healthy diet for a grey would consist of pellets and fresh fruits and veggies fed daily. Whole nuts (walnuts, almonds, etc) should be reserved as treats in foraging toys or for training only. I would not recommend that peanuts in the shell ever be fed. They are a very unhealthy choice and harbor a fungus that can be deadly to birds.
