Cinchophen is used in experimental animals to produce gastric ulcers.

The best 'cure' for vitamin A deficiency in birds is to balance the diet.  It's pretty common in a seed only diet, which is what is usually promoted for caged birds by unscrupulous manufacturers who call it "complete" or "fortified".  It's a shame they don't care about our birds as much as they do making money.

A pelleted diet should make up about 80% of any caged bird's diet, with 20% seed that does not include sunflower seeds (highly loved by birds, but too high in fat).

Besides pellets and seed, the bird should have fresh foods according to their species requirements.  Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts.

Library books may not exactly be up to date with the latest research and findings, growing at spectacular rates in the bird care field.
