fresh food diet for Amazon parrots

Question
I now know WHAT kind of fresh fruits and veggies to feed our parrot daily, but I am still stuck on how much of each...for example, an apple...the whole apple or just a few slices...how many baby carrots, etc. I know that the fresh part of the diet should make up 25% of the diet but how much should be offered at each sitting. Should we offer apple AND banana at the same time, or offer them seperately, hours apart...we are afraid of him getting the runs...or worse! Please help!

Answer
Hello Cassie and thank you for your post.

I offer several fresh items to my Amazon at one time every sitting.  He picks out what he wants and leaves the rest.  If he has not eaten the rest within about a half an hour, I remove the fruits and vegetables, and start over again the next feeding.
Start offering little bits at a time to start getting his body adjusted to the fresh fruits and vegetables.  That way, also, you can rule out things that do not agree with your bird and the things that your bird doesn't like.

I hope this helps.

Good luck and God Bless.
