safflower

Question
My Blue and Gold Macaw whenever he eats safflower is very ill can't breath and brings up a lot of phlegm this will last a good 8hrs,has any one else had a problem with this we no longer give it to him and he has not had any attacks since.

Hi there, thank you for your question.If safflower seeds are causing a problem then try to avoid them. They are quiet fatty just like sunflower seeds; moreover, they can cause illnesses too if fed alone. Try to offer your macaw fruits and veggies as well as some boiled egg with cracked egg shell which will help him feel better. Also you can try to place some turmoic powder with a drop of lemon in his water bowl which will make him active. Keep his water clean and avoid safflower if its causing a problem. Remember a variety is always best such as fruits,veggies, almond, wallnut, seed mix , millet, organic, pellet and more.
