Question
Hi,

I am wondering if you can give me some advice.
I live in Australia and am planning on building an aviary, approx 4metres wides by 1.5 metres deep and am interested in the following:

Rainbow Lorikeets
Indian Ringnecks
Cocky
LoveBirds
Budgerigars

Can you recommend suitable birds for someone like me who is just a beginner?

I would like to know what is recommended in terms of putting these birds together in the one aviary, I am gathering that the lovebirds and the budgerigars will be too small to mix with the other 2 but I may be wrong?

Would it be ok to mix the ringnecks and the lorrikeets together.

Also, what are the chances of breeding? Do the birds need to be on their own in pairs rather than together?
Is there any chance of breeding at all if they are together?

Thanks for your help

Regards.

Answer
Hi Darren

My expertise only relates to Lovebirds and therefore can only advise you that Lovebirds are extremely aggrssive, especially when breeeding, and should not be mixed with any other species.

If you were to keep only Lovebirds in an aviary such as you describe, 5 pairs of the same species would be the maximum, and to avoid territorial battles they should all be introduced to the aviary at the same time.

I hope you will be successful in finding informaton about the other species in which you are interested.
