Question
I bought my guinea pig 4 days ago.  When I bought him i notices a dry spot on the end of his ear.  It looked like dry skin.  I assumed it was a possible bite from another guinea in the cage with him and that is was healing.  Two days later i noticed that he had a spot above his eye and below his ear that looked like dry skin.  Now he the spot is larger and it is bloody.  His feet also look dry but are not bleeding.  His does not seem to be  scratching constatnly like he has mitess..  Can you help?  M.

Answer
Hello M.

It REALLY sounds like a case of mange, another skin irritation or mites/lice. It is dificult to see mites and lice sometimes. You have to really look close to the skin and IN the ears. You can sooth your GP in a milkbath (for the skin) and then wash him gently with baby hair shampoo. I wouldn;t wait on getting him to a vet that specializes in GPs immeadiately.

Also, how often is his cage beeding replaced and dish/water bottle washed. This is very important and should be done thouroughly once per week.

Thanks and good luck,
Ryan
