Question
In september im getting two female Gps. i was wondering should I buy them from a breeder of petstore and i saw a really cute one at a pet store but it was 8 months old should i get a younger one? thanks and please write back.

Answer
Hi Melissa,

It would be a much better idea to buy your pigs from a breeder.  Breeders are much more friendly, offer excellent advice and will not turn the other cheek if both or either your pigs get ill.  Plus, if you buy from a breeder, you can be assured you are getting 2 females.  A male and female is a no-no.  There is no call for pet owners breeding guinea pigs these days since there are so many dumped in animal shelters.

The age of the guinea pigs isn't really important.  So you could also consider your local animal shelter.  Guinea pigs are often getting dumped when the novelty wears off impulsive owners and so they often turn up at the shelters in pairs.

I hope this helps you and I wish you lots of fun and happiness with your future pigs.  If you have any more questions or queries, please feel free to write back.  I'm always happy to try and help.

Kind regards,
Lynne.
