one of my 2 guinea pigs died today...

QUESTION: The male guinea pig died today that leaves the girl alone. She looks in has cage repeatedly, and is acting spastic. I am concerned that she will have separation anxiety now. What should I do now?

I am sorry to hear about your loss.

If the two pigs were in separate cages I see no reason why you shouldnt get a new friend for your female as soon as you feel ready so that your female doesnt get lonely.

Hi Nikki

Its very likely the decreased appetite is down to her sadness at losing her friend but you might like to get her checked by a vet to make sure there isnt anything else wrong.

If, as suspected, bereavement is the cause, you should consider getting a new friend as a priority so as to keep your female's spirit's up. As in humans, pigs deal with the loss of a friend in different ways but not eating is particularly worrying for a pigyy.
