Question
Hi,

We just adopted our very first guinea pig and I want to do everything I can to make her comfortable and happy.  What are your tips for letting a cavie get to know her new people and become sociable?

Thanks!
libbi

Answer
Dear Libbi,

--Let her have at least 1 place to hide out.
--Leave her alone for a couple of days.
--Give her another guinea pig friend (another girl is best).
--Don't make any sudden movements for the next 2 weeks when she eyes are on the side of their head.)
--When people are by her cage, make sure they lower their voices. At least for the next week.

Spice up her menu!
Try:
--A chopped up carrot.
--1 strawberry (not too much of these!)
--A little bit of tomato
--Raw potatoes
--A very tiny bit of a fresh spice

Guinea pigs are stictly herbivores and can eat almost anything, but some foods you can only give sparingly. Carrots & lettuce can be given generously though.

I hope this information helps you. Ask me if you still need more info.
